Oh, I did that and on external monitor, it is working perfect. Thanks for diagonose.

Would that mean, its a cable problem? If so, could there be any way, I can buy the cable and get it fixed with the expert.

Or any guideline whereby I can get it fixed. I am at present based at Dubai, UAE.

For most of them, I would agree in principle that there is no difference, but smarter minds would need to weigh in.

For example:

Fingerprint - The Lenovo stores fingerprints in secured hardware, correct? So, pure Windows driver may lose this feature.

System Interface - This gives you the on-screen-green display of volume, etc., so if you don't care about that, I guess don't install.

Access Connections - I regularly use docking station, and can set up a mixed profile with WiFi and GigE, and it always works correctly. I don't want to mess with removing it, since there seems to be no drawback to using it.

System Update - My Dells don't have any comparable service, and looking for packages by hand is a pain.

Overall, I tested my system with Windows 7 "raw" and then installed the Lenovo packages. I see virtually no speed degradation. I would advise anyone to just use the Lenovo utilities, they are what set apart the computer vs. some generic brands.

My previous post somehow automagically disappeared from this thread, but in that post it stated that my Lenovo W7 upgrade arrived in the mail yesterday. My initial enthousiasm however went away when I discovered that the official Lenovo Free W7 upgrade actually is nothing more than a regular OEM to which a second disk was added.

The second disk contains roughly 200Mb data, basically offering nothing more than System Update 4.0. The user has to do the Lenovo customization himself.

This means however that since it is not a real preload, there will be no service partition, no Rescue&Recovery, no Lenovo branding etc ... What matters more however is that in this official Lenovo upgrade there is no sign of Lenovo Enhanced Experience, no EE.

For those who wish to build their systems from the ground up this free upgrade is fine. Those who expect a real preload will be disappointed. My next step therefore will be to call Lenovo support and claim an official preload.

PS Lenovo mods, I believe there's nothing offensive about this post, I am merely stating the facts. Please do not remove my post.

Transporter1997,

Thanks for the lighthearted approach here! :smileyvery-happy:

So many flames here at times, and a bit of humor from members really brightens up my day!

Honestly, the official position for the existing IdeaPad line was "No support for VT" and I had communicated that in other threads including the U330 and Y550 discussions - this was understandably not well received by many.

I had been following the VT discussions with some interest as several members worked on BIOS hacks to enable - apparently with some success on the U330. I was then somewhat surprised when our release of BIOS 67 prominently featured VT support.

We have been sharing customer feedback about the desire for VT with development and I don't know that the official position has changed despite this exception on the U330, but we can continue to beat the drum and see what happens.

Sorry for the delayed response - it has been a challenging week.

Best regards,

Yes billbolton, but the context of my comment was that Lenovo fully knew that Microsoft would charge them, chose not to eat the cost, chose to pass the cost on to the consumer, YET STILL chose to run an advertising campaign about a "FREE UPGRADE." That is LENOVO's decision, not Microsoft's.

So, LENOVO is fully culpable for their own actions, and sloughing the blame onto MS is just a corporate song and dance.

billbolton wrote:

albatrossNY wrote:

Microsoft can charge whatever they want.

And they did... it called a licence agreement that all volume OEMs have to commit to.

Except for IPv6 denial of the following possible causes of failure
The router assigns network IP, but Windows is already giving is IP and makes them immutable.
Do it to remove the IP in the properties of a network adapter (chek again radio button to automatically assign an ip).

Try, Enjoy.

imho.

..

Sometimes an administrator must create an additional user profile with a password, which must have network access permissions (ex. network sharing etc.).
Or should allow a network login to a computer. (incoming echo the invitation of the router for this may not take place). Some programs may impose restrictions on the system ..

Win7 T400s in spain?

Are there any plans to release a T400s model that comes pre-installed with Windows 7 in Spain?

There's currently only one configuration sold here and it comes with 32 bit Vista. Reading on this forum that the Win7 upgrade can take several months to process and ship, I'm left wondering if I'd be better off waiting for a model that comes pre-installed with Win7.

Thanks.

I use VirtualBox VMs heavily, mostly for security reasons, it would be most helpful if I could enable virtualization.

Model: Y550 4186

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 - I'm certain this make supports VT.

BIOS: 15CN32WW v2.05

EC: 15EC36WW v.2.03

I primarily run Ubuntu, currently Karmic (v9.10) but do have an XP SP3 partition for running Microsoft products that cannot run reliably under WINE. I see instructions in different posts for various tasks to enable VT, but apparently I have overlooked a link to a complete procedure developed by Middleton to accomplish this... I would greatly appreciate the URL.

Thanks

Well, apparently MS needed to be woken up or something, because after trying again this morning it suddenly got validated with this same key. Weird. Since when do we need to be online to install an OS? That's the only difference with how I installed yesterday..
