i figured out my two-finger double-tap issue... i need to use the pads of my fingers rather than the tips. this is either due to electrical conductivity or surface area recognition (or perhaps a little of both).

Thanks for all the comments!
As mentioned, the icon that SimpleTap can pull from the web might or might not be higher rez. Sites that tend to be higher hitters for smartphones tend to have the higher rez favicon available. I really like the idea the other poster had about using a higher rez logo from an image search if the automatically generated one isn't as nice as you'd like.
On the two finger tap issue, we wrestled with whether we needed a "tapping tutorial" as part of the intro to SimpleTap. My tendency was to use my double-click speed for my double-tap. Windows touch isn't really looking for that speed of input. There are filters to avoid unintentional touch actions that also factor here. The speed is a more deliberate speed. As soon as I got the idea to slow down a little, my launch got far more consistent. In the end, we felt the user would organically learn the right speed, but I'm interested to know if you think this is a frustration point or something you just learned on your way to using SimpleTap.
(BTW - we really appreciate all comments and input!)

lee - is there any way to tweak simpletap to allow larger icons like the function tiles? i believe those are 76x76 pixels instead of 50x50. sure, enlarged 16x16 favicons are going to look horrible but it would give greater flexibility in creating tiles.
i spent some time last night digging through XML files, INFs, DLLs, etc. to no avail. i couldn't find where the reduction/enlargement to 50x50 pixels was defined. looks like i'll have to stick to design and leave programming to the programmers. ![]()

How do you know what's a supported model?
i have an x200 tablet, but I got the impression reading through the posts that older x200s weren't supported and newer ones were. What's the cutoff? (Mine is a 7448).

crlamb - SimpleTap is supported on any X-series tablet or notebook with touch input. your question is about Enhanced MultiTouch and is a separate topic altogether.

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee this morning, but what do you mean "function tiles"? In any case, I think the size of the tiles is pretty much set since the way they interact (putting a tile on top of another creates space, etc.) was incredibly complex, and I'm guessing different sizes would create even more complexity.
That said, we do intend to have the ability for people to write their own tiles. The spec will be published early next year when Simple Tap makes the preload with additional touch models.

lee - i didn't mean for the tiles to be different sizes, just the icons used. all of the tiles are the same size on the outside. the function tiles (brightness, volume, etc. normally driven by the Fn key or a dedicated hardware key) are 76x76 pixels where user-created tiles (like what i made for the forum and blogs) are limited to 50x50 pixels. i'd like to see the limit raised to 76x76 pixels if possible.

I understand now (and have had more coffee, too
). I'll try to find out from the developers. My guess is that when we support the ability for truly custom tiles (where it is possible to do more than just launch a file, website or program) that there will be more flexibility for the design. That probably isn't something we'll build into the standard GUI (the custom tiles capability will be documented in a white paper in a few months)

Hello just curious if anyone else is seeing this with simple tap. When I tap it takes a good 10 seconds to load.
Is there a way to speed this up?
Also was wondering if there was a way to add a button to turn off screen. When I am in tablet mode on my X200 I am puzzled as to why I dont have an ability to turn off the screen.
