Hi,
i recently installed the new ubuntu 9.10 on my T60, and i get a message that my battery may be recalled. I checked the link provided, and my battery numbers match those that are recalled (it says that some, but not all, of the batteries with these nubers are recalled), but to know for certain if my battery is really recalled/dangerous i need to run a windows app. I tried installing it in wine, installation works but when i try to run the program it asks for some .dll file. So my question is, how do i get to know if my battery is dangerous and should be replaced, without having a windows installation?

Yes, I would like to know that as well. I called IBM/Lenovo and they could not help me. However, they gave me this Email logistpe@lenovo.com and ensured me that I'll get a response. Since 2 weeks nothing. Unfortunately, since Lenovo bought the ThinkPad part of IBM the support went down ![]()
Perhaps all of us should send an Email?

I've been running Ubuntu on my x61 ever since it came installed w/ Vista. What a disaster. I never used Linux as desktop OS software before - impressive. It bothers me that Lenovo doesn't provide a way for manually check the battery for folks that us Linux. Or even better, provide a script for us. Is this an FTC mandated battery recall?

Yeah, me too. I just did the upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, got the message, and started searching.
My R61 has a battery with one of the matching FRUs; it shows symptoms of sudden change in expected battery run time; now what? Regular Lenovo service was (aggressively) unwilling/unable to help.

That attitude is really fundamentally unacceptable! They're actually RISKING OUR LIVES keeping this information from us - i read in a local paper just a few days ago about a young mother and her 4 children who were all killed in a fire started by a defective laptop battery. And i always sleep with my computer within hand's reach... I just sent a short mail to the abovementioned address, everyone having a similiar problem should do the same! Come on, this is **bleep**ing serious!

Hello,
I've got the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 the other day.
So, I even re-installed windows to launch that "lenovobatteryprogram.exe" but it said that "The battery bar code format is not recognized.".
I've contacted Lenovo support wich wasn't helpfull at all... They didn't know what I was talking about...
That's pretty annoying because, at least, I would like to know if I can use my battery or if it may explose !
I sent an email to logistpe@lenovo.com but don't know it that will help.
If someone has news, I will be interested.
