I was wondering if the Thinkpad SL500 can accept the Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06GHz processor? Since it runs at the same FSB as the T9400 2.53GHz, I would assume it is a direct drop in. Am I wrong?
Also, can this laptop handle 4GB Ram modules for a total of 8GB system memory?
Thanks for any thoughts on the questions.

OK, so I have been scouring the forums looking for answers to my two questions in my previous post. I have finally found the answer to the RAM question.
The SL500 can only recognize 4GB RAM so you can't use 4GB modules as only 2GB is recognized. I found this from another post here where they installed 2 Kingston 4GB modules (for total of 8GB) and the system only saw 4GB.
Now, I still haven't found an answer to the processor question. Does anyone know if the T9900 3.06 GHz processor will work in the SL500? Will the BIOS recognize it for what it is? My SL500 currently has a T5870 2.0 GHz processor and I would like to upgrade it to either the T9800 2.93 GHz or T9900 3.06 GHz processor. Since both of these processors run within the range of the T9400 2.53 GHz processor which is an option for my SL500, I assume they should work.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks.

I still haven't been able to find anywhere that states whether or not I can drop the T9900 3.06GHz processor in the SL500. From everything that I have found, it SHOULD work but it seems the only thing that might be an issue is the BIOS if it is not coded to recognize the T9900.
Has anyone tried or heard of someone putting the T9900 in an SL500 and having it work correctly? Since the T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz FSB) is an option on the Lenovo website for the SL500, I can't see why the T9900 (3.06GHz 1066MHz FSB) wouldn't work with the exception of the BIOS not recognizing it correctly.
If anyone knows if this CPU will work, please post.
Thanks.

Has anyone tried this yet? I still haven't been able to find anywhere where it has been attempted. If anyone knows, please post.
Thanks.

Hi... posting here for the first time.
I'm also interested if this would work. My SL500 has a 1.8GHz T5670 and I *really* want to upgrade now.
BUT: It doesn't even have to be the T9900; I'd already be more than happy if the -> T9400 <- works with my machine. Can anyone confirm if it does?! Currently my machine runs with FSB800 - does the SL500 *really* support an FSB of 1066 MHz?? I'd be grateful for any information anyone could give me regarding this issue...
Thanks in advance,
Snob
