Re: Sweet! Lappy has shipped.

I'm just going to hold off on checking it's progress for a while so that when it gets to the lower 48, I can be pleasantly surprised.  :smileyhappy:

Re: SLx series shipping messages

Wow. This is a big bummer. One day away from supposed delivery and I get this msg. An "exception."

LOUISVILLE,
KY,  US 12/09/2008 9:57 A.M.

THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

Does anyone know what this means? How much of a delay?

Re: SLx series shipping messages

it's fine... it will probably still get there on time.  I had that, too.  Basically, it has to clear customs, and that occurs in Kentucky.  It's pretty normal, if you google around you'll see other people getting the same messages.

It just means it's coming through customs.

Thanks guys. I just got off the horn with UPS, they said it had been released from customs and is on it's way for a Thurs. delivery.

SL500 arrived with three ugly scratches in case

Hello everyone,

I just received a new SL500 that I purchased online from Lenovo and I'm very happy with it, considering the price (mobile broadband is a great feature!). However, first thing I noticed when I opened it was three scratches in the case (back of the screen), which look very ugly in the glossy outer covering.

I would like to ask what can be done. I don't want to send it back to Lenovo just because of some scratches in the case. Is it possible to get any kind of partial refund?

Thank you very much.

I've been thinking of making a skin for mine, since I absolutely hate the glossy finish.  Contact paper and an exacto knife and a few minutes with some spray paint...

Potential Customer Service Fiasco

I'm a Lenovo first time user and recently purchased an SL400 during the Black Friday weekend (I made the purchase on Saturday 11/29). I noticed I made an error in my configuration and decided to cancel it and make a new order. I called on Sunday but it was too late so I decided to send an email to cancel it but I still called the next morning (Monday 12/01).  On the phone call on Monday, the representative told me that I could cancel the order OR make the changes to my order right there on the phone. I ended up changing the order rather than canceling the order and creating a new one. I thought to myself, great, I'll get the configuration I really wanted.

I checked online that status of my order and saw a few changes but these changes were very unclear.  For example one of the changes was to downgrade the RAM from 2 GB to 1 GB.  On the order I see both listed:

41W2063  VBB 2GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 2DIMM

44C2628  SBB 1GBPC-5300DDR2SDR667MHZSOD

I decided to call later that week asking if the 10% black Friday discount coupon would be honored. The representative at this time told me that she sees the note on the configuration change and that yes, the coupon will be used. I'm again, happy with the answers I'm getting from the lenovo customer service but still uneasy with the information I see on the online order status.

So, after a few days I see my credit card got charged but it got charged with the initial amount, before the configuration changes. I check online and see that it has shipped. At this point, I'm clueless if the changes were made so I decided to call lenovo again. The customer representative had no clue; first telling me that my order shipped on Dec 02 and I said no, that was the carrying bag, the Laptop did not ship until Dec 10; then making me wait at least 3 times to check what was up. I don't mind waiting (on the phone) but it gave me an indication that she had no clue and that the bad news were ready to come. So yes, the order shipped and NO CHANGES were made to the configuration and she could online apologize for that.

At this point, I'm really upset but I’m controlling myself from yelling at the customer representative b/c she had nothing to do with this and I'm pretty sure she and her peers receive a lot of undeserved grief from angry customers.  What pissed me off more is that she didn't give me any options. She told me I could only return the laptop.

How come lenovo let's you alter the configuration and NOT DO IT and simply ship it. Ok, and if altering the configuration after order was made is something nonstandard then why tell customers on the phone that you can do it? I could have simply canceled the order, create a new one, and I wouldn't be in this situation. Lenovo clearly states that "Cancellation requests must be made prior to your order shipping." It could have done that, it was 1 business day after the initial order.

So what options do I speak of? Well, I simply want the laptop that I really wanted  two weeks ago, at the price from two weeks ago and have some sort of priority delivery (EXPRESS and not EXPEDITED perhaps?) and of course, not be charged for returning the laptop I didn't want. Is this asking for too much? I don't want to wait another 3 weeks for a laptop and I want to pay the price I initially intended to pay.

I also have a question. I didn't really trust the last representative answers as she appeared clueless. If I open the box and boot the laptop will I be charged if I intend to return it? I want to see for myself what configuration the laptop has.

The laptop won't arrive until Wednesday, Dec 17th so I won't know until then.

Any suggestions on what I should do or any predictions on what is going to happen? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Re: SLx series shipping messages

To future buyers of SL series Laptops:

I ordered an SL400 computer back in the middle of January of 2009 from the Lenovo website. It shows that the computer will be shipped within 11 business days upon your order. It is now February 19, and I wont be getting my computer until probably the 23rd of February.  There are a few problems with this system.

1. 11 Business days does not happen. I called on the 12th business day to inform them that they had not shipped my order yet and they told me to wait another week! Finally the computer shipped out on February 12 about 16 business days later. I was also told by a lenovo representative on the phone that it will make it to my house in Canada in less than 5 business days.

2. Shipping UPS...tracking numbers change from international to domestic. There is an international tracking number (from lenovo) which will show up on the UPS website, but once the computer arrives it is assigned another tracking number and trust me, its not worth trying to get out of the workers at UPS or lenovo. It takes about an hour on the phone and numerous people until you basically must scream at them until they ask someone qualified to give you the answer.

3. UPS will drive the package across the country rather than fly it, and it will take 10-15 business days because lenovo is too cheap to spend the extra money to get it to you within a reasonable amount of time. I will also probably wont be home when UPS knocks on my door because I too have a job like them and wont be sitting around waiting for my long over due computer. I will then that night drive across town to get it in a shady warehouse in a less than respectable part of town. Sadly I probably wont even be in the city that week, and may not get in for another week after that!

4. Lenovo will not apologize for not shipping a package on time nor for the amount of time it will take in transit. There is no reimbusement for anything. I was told to "read the fine print" which basically says we can tell you 11 business days...but dont believe us!

So, this is my saga. This is all for simply getting a lenovo product because my T61 fell apart in only 14 months. It makes me want to go to future shop and buy a Macbook in spite. To those who read this message, be aware that if you need a computer in a reasonable amount of time, do NOT depend on getting a product shipped in less than a month.
