I 'downgraded' my thinkpad sl500 from Vista to XP.
Now I can't change the monitor resolution so it fits my 19'' monitor. It doesn't go high enough.
I have downloaded every sl500 driver that has anything to do with monitor/presentatio/display. However, I'm not even sure the device is there. In the device manager there are no devices listed under Display (there is no such heading at all although I read that there shoudl be ). 9 devices are listed under 'other devices' with a question mark. Of these, one is 'Video controller.' Another is 'Video Controller (vga compatible)' I don't know if these have anything to do with the monitor, but they are the most 'display-related' devices there. There are 'base system devices', 'audio devices' and 'unknown devices'.
I have tried to say 'reinstall' for the video devices, but it can't find the driver software, even when I try pointing to each of the folders with the downloaded drivers.
I shoudl say that I had a similar problem with audio and eventually fixed the problem by downloading a MS hoxfix.

Hi tinebak,
Have you tried running thinkvantage system updater?
Manually installing lenovo drivers is a tricky job especially for new users. For any driver, simply downloading and running the setup does not install it. installing lenovo drivers is a two step process namely extraction of the file to a location the first setup file chooses [by default typically C:\Drivers\..] and secondly going to that location and running the actual driver's setup.
The instructions are given on all pages for lenovo drivers:-
[Extracting file]
- Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges on the target computer.
- Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
- Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- In the Select Destination Location window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
- In the Ready to Install window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in Extracting File Step 5.
[Installing files]
- Make sure the checkbox next to Install ..... now is checked and clickFinish.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.
Hope it helps.
