I bought a SL400 2743QPA yesterday and am liking it so far. The laptop has a intel on board graphics chipset. I've installed 64 bit Windows 7 on it. The laptop came with 2 x 1GB transcend RAM. I wish to upgrade it to 4GB, which I believe is the maximum this will support.
1) The salesperson told me that it will support up to 8GB (2 x 4GB). Is that true? Do I need to do a bios update to enable that?
2) The salesperson also mentioned that I can only use the transcend brand RAM sold by lenovo ($150 per 2GB stick) and third party RAM by companies such as kingston would not work. But here on the forums, I see many people using Kingston RAM on their machines so I am skeptical about her statement but would like to confirm.
3) If I decide to upgrade on my own, can I use the generic Kingston Notebook valueRAM (KVR-****) or should I buy the specific model of kingston ram recommended on kingston.com (KT-****)?
4) Is there any difference between using Kingston, Transcend or Crucial for performance reasons?
Thank you for reading.

1) i think the SL series can have a maximum of 4 gig ram.
2) You can mix and match ram, so the salesman is not telling you the truth. The cheapest ram can be purchased in MSY, which has stores across melbourne.
3) as long its SO-DIMM 200 pin PC2-5300 its okay.
4) not really.
Too many Thinkpads to list.......... pro bono is my motto... if excellence is possible then good is not good enough....
I do not work for Lenovo.
