T400 / T500 and newer T series ThinkPad Laptops

My laptop shows the above modem in the hardware list. 

How do I use the modem?

Where do I connect my phone line to the computer/modem?

My older laptop had a dialup connector, but this one doesn't.  

PS: I tried a StarTech USB fax modem, but it sent my computer into never, never land and I had to return it.

I have a  T400, 2801-CTO model and the back does not look the same as the picture you sent, which seems to be that of another model. 

My connectors are 1 USB connector and audio jack on left side; then on back are connectors for: power jack, monitor, ethernet, USB, USB/eSATA (what is this?); and DisplayPort.

Is a com4 modem a modem that one gets to via a USB port? If so, how does one connect the phone line?

what you have is a T400s, not a T400 0.o

the picture Maliha showed you IS a T400....

and yea, T400s doesn't have a modem. what hardware list are you looking at? i can't find a modem on my t400s in device manager...

Oh, I see now that it is the left side of the laptop. 

Yes, I do have the T400s - the review link you sent me shows a picture of the rear that looks just like mine.

I wonder if the  'standard modem Com4 ' that shows up in hardware list (control panel, phones / modems) is left over from when I had the StarTech USB fax modem installed - the one that I returned as it did not work.

So, I guess I will just order the $50 US Robotics one and try that. I saw a post that said that worked.
