Adding Fingerprint Reader to T60

Hi all,

My version of T60 did not come with a fingerprint reader. Recently I bought a plam rest with fingerprint reader part and tried to replace the original one with it.

The cable should be properly connected and the Trackpad on the palm rest works fine. However, Windows and the latest Lenovo fingerprint software seem not to be able to recognize the reader. I can find the security chips option in the BIOS (v2.25), but not the finger reader related ones...

Did I miss anything to make that reader work? I really love to have that function... Or, it just won't work in those T60 model originally with fingerprint reader?

Do anyone have similar experience?

Please help.

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for cross posting.

Re: Adding Fingerprint Reader to T60

Oh really? But I cannot even see the fingerprint seetings in BIOS, is that normal? Does the BIOS hide the settings if it cannot detect a good fingerprint reader?

I grab it from a shop at HK, I didn't ask them whether it is 2nd or not. Although it looks clean and neat, I do expect that it is 2nd hand since it just cost me $5x USD.

If it is an hardware problem, I have to take the item back to the shop and ask for an exchange.

Thanks!

Re: Adding Fingerprint Reader to T60

I can't find the biometric device in Window's device manager. Is it in a separate categories, or inside some others? I remember when I first connect this newly bought palm rest to the computer, I was prompted to installa human interface device which I thought to be related to the Trackpad (but actually I was not sure, and now I cannot locate it in the list either...).

Really thanks very much for your help!

Re: Adding Fingerprint Reader to T60

Are you able to see it in BIOS under Security ?

Re: Adding Fingerprint Reader to T60

No, I can't...

Will the BIOS show the item only after detecting such a device, or will it show the item all the time?

Thanks
