The new Adaptec controllers have the ability to use bad block tables and SMART functions.
I am looking to purchase 3x 6447-21U's. These servers come with the RAID-8k adapter. I will be using 4x 750GB SATA HD's per server for the RAID.
Does the Lenovo controller (RAID-8k) have the SMART function where you can monitor drive conditions to pick up early malfunction before it turns into failure?
Also, can you shut off write cacheing?
Thank you,
Dan

Yes, Lenovo controller (RAID-8k) have the SMART function, if you need drive conditions, you can try active smart, it is useful but not free, I use as a realtime hard drive health status monitor.
