Guess I'm not alone-- I am having the same problem with a T400s purchased on 7/26-- invalid serial number.
I clicked on the "Click here if your Serial Number cannot be verified" link and supplied the information requested (I had previously registered with Lenovo a few days prior) and got an email saying I would be notified when I could try again. Still waiting...

Hello-
This is my first post to your forum... I am attempting to register for the free Windows 7 upgrade, as I purchased my Y550 during the required time window. Unfortunately, when I attempt to input my serial number, I am told that the number I am entering is invalid. I have not only checked the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but also through the bios at start up (they match). Does anyone know why the website is not recognizing my serial number. By the way, I purchased my computer directly through the Lenovo website.
I greatly appreciate your feedback.
Thanks,
Sam

There is a link next to input for the serial number in case your serial number is not recognized. You have to enter your info and your machine serial no. It seems that for some machines they have to manually verify the serial no. I have used and have received an ack back message with:
- We will notify you again to complete the order online when ready
I have not heard anything back yet but we still have time before Oct 22.

I have a T500 and did the same. But as I stated in this thread the registration does not work. It claims that the model and serial number is invalid. I think the registration process is completely messed-up.

This is frustrating for me. The invoice for my W500 (4058-CT0) is dated June 15th...
I would appreciate to know how we can upgrade to Windows 7 with the proper Lenovo software packages included.

I believe quite a number of current lenovo users are going to change the vista to win 7.
Providing a smooth and simple transition would provide a better experience with our laptop, and with lenovo.
After i bought my U110 in May, within two days, i did a system restore, ghosted my system and install win 7 RC.
And i never turn back to my vista backup image... Win 7 works so much better on the 1.8inch harddisk, compares to vista.
When i knew the upgrade package is only open to people who bought in Jun, i felt really disappointed. Okieee, i understand it is really business, so it is really about my luck, ha..
Well, it may not affects me that much even if you cant provide any system restore or installation package, as long as you release the drivers thru your website's support. However, i feel there is really a demand for such upgrade package, can you imagine how many people are relying on the one key recovery when their laptop has problem, any problem?..
So i feel, it would be really good if lenovo would be able to provide some simple way of upgrading. Be it harddisk cloning (allow us to use the recovery key), system restore disk (save our trouble of physically come down for service support, and allow us to restore our system painlessly when there is any problem with the system) or any other forms of reasonbly easy and painless upgrading package.
It will make us happier.
