ThinkVantage--Windows7 Incompatible

Running W7 upgraded from Vista+T61

Click on Thinkvantage, Update my system and W7 announces 'This program has known compatbility issues--Check online, run program, Cancel.' Checking online is worthless. If I run the update it appears that Update does not realize the OS is W7 in that most of the downloads are Vista related. I cancelled the operation.

Is there a Thinkvantage program that is compatible with Windows 7?

Re: ThinkVantage--Windows7 Incompatible

Thanks.

One would expect, however, that the software had the smarts to update itself (intended for Lenovo staff).

Re: ThinkVantage--Windows7 Incompatible

Markg2,

In a perfect world, I agree.  But, earlier versions of ThinkVantage system update do not run under Windows 7, therefore we don't have a way to update itself.  If older versions could run under win 7, then there wouldn't need to be an update, right?

As it stands, version 4 is required for Windows 7.  The intent is one manual update to get version 4, then it can run and install the other updates automatically.   In some cases, the automated version of updates may lag the newest drivers available for manual download by some days, so it's possible that TVSU 4 won't find everything automatically , just yet.

I do expect we will get caught up though and it should work smoothly for most...

Best regards,

Mark

Re: ThinkVantage--Windows7 Incompatible

Hey Mark-

Is there any distinction between the drivers on the upgrade kit CD and the ones online/system update? That is, if I already used system update to pull all the latest drivers, is there any point in running the upgrade DVD drivers (EE or such?)

Thanks,

Alex
